Is tetrahydrofuran poisonous?
Leave a message
Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a colorless organic liquid that is miscible with water and has a small viscosity under normal temperature and pressure. The chemical formula of this cyclic ether can be written as (CH2) 4O. Because of its long liquid range, it is a commonly used medium polar aprotic solvent. Its main use is as a precursor of polymer. Although the odor and chemical properties of THF are very similar to ether, the anesthetic effect is very poor.
On October 27th, 2017, the list of carcinogens released by the international agency for research on cancer of the World Health Organization was preliminarily sorted out for reference. Tetrahydrofuran was included in the list of 2B carcinogens.
